No, you do not need to enter Form 1095-A if you did not receive one. However, whether you need it depends on whether you had Marketplace coverage.

When You May Not Need Form 1095-A

You do not need Form 1095-A if:

  • No Marketplace Coverage:
You did not enroll in a health plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace
  • Other Coverage Types:
    You had coverage through:
    • An employer
    • A private insurer (outside the Marketplace)
    • Government programs (e.g., Medicaid, Medicare)
  • Catastrophic or Stand-Alone Dental Plans:
These do not generate Form 1095-A

When Form 1095-A IS Required

You must have Form 1095-A if:

  • You enrolled in a Marketplace plan for any month, OR
  • Advance Premium Tax Credit (APTC) was paid on your behalf

In these cases, you are required to file Form 8962 to:

  • Reconcile APTC (Part II, lines 12–23)
  • Calculate your final Premium Tax Credit (line 24)

What to Do If You Should Have Received Form 1095-A

  • Contact your Marketplace (e.g., HealthCare.gov or state exchange)
  • Download it from your Marketplace account
  • Wait for a corrected Form 1095-A if errors exist before filing

Important Notes

  • Form 1095-A is not filed with your return, but its information is required to complete Form 8962
  • If APTC was paid and you do not file Form 8962, your return will be rejected or delayed
  • If you had no Marketplace coverage, you do not file Form 8962 at all
