The Arkansas State Political Contributions Credit allows eligible taxpayers to claim a credit for contributions made to qualified political candidates or parties in Arkansas. This credit is designed to encourage civic participation and support for state-level political entities.
Eligibility and Credit Amounts
- Taxpayers must be residents of Arkansas.
- Contributions must be made to candidates for public office in Arkansas or to an organized political party as defined in Arkansas Code Annotated ยง 7-1-101.
- Contributions to federal office candidates are not eligible for this credit.
- The maximum allowable credit is $50.00 for filing statuses 1, 3, 5, or 6.
- The maximum allowable credit is $100.00 total for filing statuses 2 or 4 (married filing jointly or qualifying widow(er)).
Contribution Deadline
Contributions must be made by April 15, 2026, to be claimed on the 2025 tax return. This deadline ensures that contributions are timely and align with the tax year reporting requirements.
How to Claim the Credit
- Complete Form AR1000TC (State Political Contributions Credit).
- Attach Form AR1000TC to your Arkansas state tax return (Form AR1000F or AR1000NR).
- When using OLT (Online Taxes) software, navigate to the "Credit" section and select "Start or Edit" near Form AR1000TC to input your contribution details.
Important Notes
- The credit is not available to nonresidents of Arkansas.
- Only contributions made to state or local offices (e.g., state, city, county, school districts) qualify. Federal office contributions are excluded.
- Ensure contributions are documented and made by the deadline to qualify for the credit.
