Do I Qualify for the Georgia Rural Physician's Credit?
The Georgia Rural Physician's Credit is a tax incentive designed to support physicians practicing in rural areas of the state. This credit is available under Georgia Code § 48-7-29 and provides a $5,000 tax credit per year for eligible physicians.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Rural Physician's Credit, you must meet the following conditions:
- Be a licensed physician practicing in a designated rural area in Georgia.
- Have begun practicing in the rural area on or before May 15, 2024.
- Claim the credit for no more than five consecutive tax years.
- The credit amount cannot exceed your total Georgia income tax liability for the year.
- No carryover or carry-back of unused credit is allowed.
How to Claim the Credit
You can claim the Rural Physician's Credit by completing Form IND-CR, specifically Schedule 207. This form is part of your Georgia individual income tax return (Form 500). The credit must be reported on Line 7 of the IND-CR Summary Worksheet and included in your total credits on Line 20 of Form 500.
