Where can I enter information to claim one of the education tax credits?

To claim an education tax credit using Online Taxes (OLT) software, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your tax return in the OLT software.
  • From the left-hand menu (or tap the three dots in the top-right corner for mobile devices), select Federal.
  • Under the Credits section, click on Show More next to Education Credits.
  • Select the appropriate credit: American Opportunity Tax Credit or Lifetime Learning Credit.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your qualified education expenses and other required information.

For Form 8863 (Education Credits), you can also add it directly by navigating to the Payments/Refundable Credits section, selecting Show More near Education Tax Credits - Form 8863, and then clicking Add or Edit.

If you need to report a recapture of prior year education credits, go to the Taxes section, click Show More, and select Add or Edit next to Recapture of Prior Year Education Credits.
