IN Estimated Taxes - Form 2210
Form IT-2210, known as the Indiana Underpayment of Estimated Tax Penalty, is used to calculate and report any penalty for underpaying estimated state income taxes in Indiana. This form is typically required when a taxpayer did not pay enough estimated tax during the year or did not pay tax through withholding.
When to Use Form IT-2210
- When you are a full-year nonresident and filed Form IT-40PNR for 2024.
- If you paid less than the required amount of estimated tax for the year.
- When you need to calculate the penalty for underpayment based on your actual tax liability.
Key Sections of Form IT-2210
- Line 1: Total tax from lines 8 and 9 of your 2024 Form IT-40PNR.
- Line 2: Subtract total credits (line 13) and any amounts from Schedule F, lines 4 through 11.
- Line 3: Enter the result from Line 2 as the total underpayment amount.
Important Notes
- For taxpayers who file early (by February 2, 2026), no 4th installment payment is required if the full tax is paid with the return.
- Ensure you maintain records of federal Form 8839, Adoption Credit Carryforward Worksheets, and federal Form 1040, as Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) may request them.
- Use Schedule IT-2210A for annualizing income if you have income from multiple periods during the year.
