The Kansas Homestead & Property Tax Relief (SAFESR) program provides a property tax rebate to eligible Kansas homeowners. This refund is available to individuals who are at least 55 years old, blind, disabled, or have a dependent child under 18 living with them for the entire year. To qualify, the claimant must be a Kansas resident for the entire year and have a household income of $43,389 or less for tax year 2025. The maximum refund amount is $700, and it is based on a percentage of the general property tax paid.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must own and occupy the home as a primary residence (homestead).
- Must be a Kansas resident for the entire tax year.
- Household income must not exceed $43,389 for 2025.
- Must be 55 years or older, blind, disabled, or have a dependent child under 18 living with them all year.
Important Notes
- Renters are not eligible; ownership is required.
- If you moved during the year, you may claim property tax paid for each residence during the time you lived there.
- If you have delinquent property taxes, your homestead refund may be applied to those debts.
- Homeowners who rent out part of their home or use part for business may only claim the tax paid on the portion used as a residence.
