The Kansas Targeted Employment Credit is available to eligible employers that receive approval for hiring individuals from targeted employment groups under the Kansas Targeted Employment Act. This credit is non-refundable, cannot be carried forward, and may only be used once per taxable year against one of the following taxes: income, privilege, or premium tax.
Eligibility and Credit Limits
- The Kansas Targeted Employment Act limits the total amount of targeted employment credits that may be authorized statewide during a tax year. Individual taxpayers may claim only the amount of credit approved and certified for their eligible employees.
- The wage rate used to calculate the credit cannot exceed $7.50 per hour or a reasonable and customary market wage for a similar job, whichever is lower.
- Employers must collect and report specific tax incentive information as required by K.S.A. 74-50,227 for inclusion in a state-managed database.
