Montana Recycle Credit
The Montana Recycle Credit is a tax incentive designed to encourage businesses and individuals to invest in machinery and equipment used for recycling and energy production from reclaimed materials in Montana. This credit is available under Montana Code Annotated (MCA) sections 15-32-603 and 15-32-610.
Eligibility Criteria
- The machinery or equipment must be located and operating in Montana on the last day of the tax year.
- It must be used primarily for collecting, processing, or recycling materials.
- It cannot be used to produce energy from reclaimed material (if so, the taxpayer does not qualify).
- Applicants must answer all qualifying questions on Form RCYL (Recycle Credit/Deduction Form).
How to Claim the Credit
To claim the Montana Recycle Credit, taxpayers must complete and submit Form RCYL. This form requires detailed information about the machinery or equipment, including its use and location. A copy of Form RCYL must be included with the Montana individual income tax return (Form 2) if claiming this credit.
Important Notes
- The credit is nonrefundable and cannot be carried forward or backward.
- It is only available for equipment used in Montana for recycling purposes, not for energy production from reclaimed materials.
- For detailed instructions and calculations, refer to the official Form RCYL and its instructions.
