New York Claim for Credit for Purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator
Individuals, sole proprietors, partnerships, estates, or trusts in New York State may be eligible to claim a tax credit for the purchase of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for personal use, not for resale. This credit is designed to encourage the availability of life-saving medical equipment.
Eligibility and Requirements
- Must be an individual, sole proprietor, partnership, estate, or trust.
- The AED must be purchased for personal use and not for resale.
- No limit on the number of units that can be claimed, as long as they are not for resale.
- Must report the name and model number of each AED purchased during the tax year in Column A of the applicable form.
How to Claim the Credit
Claim the credit by completing the appropriate section on your New York State tax return. The credit amount is based on the purchase price of the AED or $500, whichever is less. Ensure you include the name and model number of each AED purchased during the tax year.
