Pennsylvania Return Mailing Address
When filing your Pennsylvania individual income tax return, it is important to ensure that your mailing address is correctly formatted to avoid processing delays. The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue has specific guidelines for address formatting, especially when submitting forms such as the PA-40 or related schedules.
Address Formatting Guidelines
- Eliminate punctuation: Do not include apostrophes, commas, periods, or hyphens in your address.
- Use uppercase letters: All address information should be written in uppercase letters.
- Post office box: If your address includes only a post office box, enter it on the first line of the address.
- Foreign addresses: For foreign addresses, follow the standard format: city or municipal designation, country, and postal code. Write in black ink or typewritten; pencil is not acceptable.
- Maximum lines: Addresses should not exceed four lines.
Forms Requiring Address Information
The following forms require proper address formatting as per Pennsylvania Department of Revenue instructions:
- PA-20S/PA-65 Schedule RK-1 – For partnerships and S corporations, the entity issuing the form must provide the correct address without punctuation.
- PA-20S/PA-65 Schedule NRK-1 – Similar to RK-1, this form requires the owner’s address to be entered without punctuation, with PO Box on the second line if applicable.
- PA-40 (Individual Income Tax Return) – When filing electronically via OLT (Online Taxes) software, the system will guide you through entering your address correctly.
Filing Instructions for Amended Returns
If you need to file an amended return, clearly print "AMENDED RETURN" at the top of the form and fill in the "amended" oval on the front of the PA-40 or PA-40 EZ. You may file an amended return using a paper form regardless of how the original return was filed.
