Utah Historic Preservation Credit
The Utah Historic Preservation Credit is designed to encourage the restoration of residential certified historic buildings. This credit is available to taxpayers who incur costs to restore such properties, as verified by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).
Eligibility and Requirements
- Must restore a residential building that is certified as historic by the SHPO.
- Complete Form TC-40H, Historic Preservation Tax Credit, and obtain SHPO certification.
- Do not send Form TC-40H with your tax return; keep it with your records for potential audit or verification requests.
Claiming the Credit
- Enter the credit on TC-40A, Part 4, using code 06 for the Historic Preservation Credit.
- Any credit amount exceeding your tax liability may be carried forward for up to five years.
