Eligibility and Purpose
- Intended for homeowners who make qualifying accessibility improvements to their primary residence in Virginia.
- Modifications must be necessary for individuals with disabilities to live safely and independently in their homes.
- Examples of qualifying improvements include installing ramps, widening doorways, modifying bathrooms, or adding grab bars.
How to Claim the Credit
- Claim the credit on your Virginia individual income tax return using Form 760 or Form 760PY.
- Include details of the home modifications, costs, and documentation of the disability status of the resident.
- Ensure all improvements are completed and documented before filing.
Important Notes
- The credit is available to full-year residents of Virginia.
- Only one spouse may claim the credit if filing separately; however, both may claim a proportionate share if eligible for the Virginia Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
